I grew up in the era of nuclear annihilation that could happen any minute, and after the fall of the Soviet Union it almost seemed that was in the past. For awhile, we could worry a little less, forget the bunker building and hiding under a table. Recent events demonstrate that the threat of atomic doomsday is back with a vengeance, though the tools have been upgraded and the strategies have changed.

I seriously doubt that there was anything "accidental" about the broadcast.

I too grew up in the time of the cold war, under the shadow of the mushroom cloud.  Strange times indeed for those who do not understand.  Things I have learned since, not just about the time period of the 70's and 80's I gre up during, but the 50's and 60's absolutely chill me to the bone.

Perhaps you could use this mood to create some form of themed contest for the group?  Though I find my time fairly eaten up and I have difficulty finishing new works of late, I might try to take a crack at some new images of what a new cold war might look like.
